THE FOUR BASIC RULES OF FIREARMS SAFETY
- ALWAYS TREAT EVERY FIREARM AS IF IT IS LOADED
- NEVER POINT A FIREARM AT ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY
- KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON YOUR TARGET
- KNOW YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND
GENERAL LRP RULES:
- All participants must sign in at the CSEC range office before going to the LRP range.
- There is no charge for non-shooting spectators.
- To minimize road damage, 4-wheel drive should be used (if equipped) on the access road to the LRP (UTV can be rented)
- Hunting at CSEC is prohibited, all applicable wildlife laws will be enforced.
- No food or drink (with exception of water) on the shooting benches/positions.
- Use of personal targets during LRP public access days is prohibited (allowed only during permitted events).
- Shooters must police their brass and clean up following range use (mark your brass if you want to keep it).
- Those shooting auto loaders should use brass catchers or deflectors (be a good neighbor).
- Be neighborly, coordinate when multiple shooters are engaging the same target (take turns).
- When done, police your brass and trash, and clear your bench/position promptly after cease-fire is called.
- Parking in designated areas only.
- Cancellations due to unsafe weather/road conditions will result in paid participants being issued “rain checks” for use at a later session of their choosing.
LRP SAFETY RULES:
- Eye and Ear protection required for all shooters and spectators (available at CSEC office).
- Pointing or allowing a firearm (whether loaded or not) to be pointed at or near another person will result in immediate termination of shooting privileges for the day. This includes owners of unattended firearms placed horizontally anywhere other than on the firing line which someone walks in front of. THIS IS A ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY AND WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED!!!
- No going forward of muzzles at any time while the range is hot for any reason. This includes to retrieve gear or pick up brass. Anyone going down-range of muzzles on the firing line while the line is hot will be required to put away their gear and stop shooting for the day and either leave or remain behind the firing line.
- Any accidental or negligent discharge will disqualify the shooter for the remainder of the day.
- During a Cease Fire condition all bolts must be clearly and visibly open and for auto loaders, chamber flags must be inserted. (Chamber Flags are available at the CSEC Office).
- Persons who have repeat safety violations may be banned permanently from handling firearms and/or participating in other activities at CSEC.
- If an unsafe condition is observed, everyone is responsible to take action and loudly declare a cease fire. The RSO will take charge and evaluate the safety issue until it is adequately resolved.
- All firearms shall be uncased only at the bench, muzzle pointing down range.
- All firearms will arrive at the firing line empty with the bolt/action open.
- Auto loaders must have chamber flags in any time that they are not on the bench.
- All uncased firearms will be carried with muzzles straight up and actions open.
- Uncased firearms are allowed to be horizontal on the firing line only (otherwise, muzzle up!)
- No loaded firearms anywhere other than on the firing line and only when the line is hot.
- No uncased guns are allowed to be placed on or leaned against the picnic tables.
- No assembling, preparing, working on or repairing of guns or ammunition on the picnic tables.
- No 50 BMG allowed on the LRP due to extreme ricochet hazard.
- No tracer/incendiary or AP/ penetrator (green tip) rounds allowed. Full auto allowed only during specially permitted events.
- For target engagement beyond 1,000 yards, you and your equipment must be reasonably capable of reliably impacting the steel targets at the distances that you intend to engage them.
- To shoot at or beyond 1,000 yards on the LRP range you must be able to:
- Show elevation drop chart “dope card”, ballistics program, or be able to verbally articulate the known ballistics of your cartridge to the RSO.
- Alternately, be able to demonstrate consistent proficiency at 1000 yards before moving on.
- No random or unreasonable “hail Mary” elevation adjustments “in hopes of hitting a target”.
- All shooting must be done from the marked firing line (except as authorized during permitted events).
Ammunition Restrictions
Due to the presence of electronic flashers on most of our targets, there are some Ammunition Restrictions on the LRP Please check this link to make sure your ammunition complies.
