General Range Rules

THE FOUR BASIC RULES OF FIREARMS SAFETY

  1. ALWAYS TREAT EVERY FIREARM AS IF IT IS LOADED
  2. NEVER POINT A FIREARM AT ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY
  3. KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON YOUR TARGET
  4. KNOW YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND

RANGE RULES

  • Shooters and visitors must check in at Range Office
  • Persons 17 and under must be supervised by someone over 21 who is not shooting while supervising
  • No more than two minors per supervising adult in any group
  • Persons under 7 may not handle firearms at this range, but may shoot archery
  • Persons 7-17 may handle firearms ONLY under the direct supervision of an accompanying parent or guardian
  • Minimum age for handling handguns is 12 years
  • Public access bays 1-7 and archery bay are available following check-in and payment at Range Office
  • Bay 1 is for .22 LR and air guns ONLY
  • Action Shooting Bays 8-20 are by reservation and permit use only (RSO must be present per user group agreement)
  • No dogs allowed on any part of the facility at any time, unless allowed by special use permit (Service dogs must have eye and ear protection)
  • Cigarette butts must be placed only in the appropriately labeled containers
  • Pick up all brass and place into recycling receptacles found in each bay (Unless you are keeping your own brass. DO NOT take any brass that you did not bring)
  • Shooters must clean up all trash and place in provided trash cans (NOT in brass recycling cans!)
  • Group picnic shelters available for reservation only
  • Individual picnic tables are available for general public use (Please clean up picnic area and place trash in cans!)
  • Park in approved parking areas only, unless directed by CSEC staff during an overflow event parking scenario
  • No alcohol/illegal drug use, or persons under the influence of intoxicants allowed at any time while using range

SAFETY RULES

  • No drawing/shooting from the holster unless authorized during a sanctioned event
  • No tracer/incendiary or AP/ penetrator (green tip) rounds allowed. Full auto allowed only during specially permitted events.
  • Eye and ear protection required while on the firing line, when the line is ‘hot’
  • No one is allowed forward of the red safety line when the line is ‘hot’
  • No one is allowed between the yellow and red safety lines when the range is ‘safe’
  • RSO must declare the range is safe before ANYONE goes forward of the red safety line
  • Anyone can call an emergency ‘cease-fire’ for safety emergencies
  • Emergency ‘cease-fire’ applies to all bays and is in effect until an RSO declares the range is ‘hot’
  • Administrative non-emergency ‘cease-fire’ apply to individual bays only (changing targets, etc.)
  • Cease Fire Procedures:
    • Immediately unload and remove all firearms from benches, remove magazines, lock actions/cylinders open
    • All pistols will be benched on pistol tables, and all rifles will be racked muzzle up on the rifle racks
    • No one is allowed downrange until the RSO declares the range is clear
    • Anyone not going downrange will remain behind the yellow safety line until the RSO declares “The line is hot”
  • Minimum distance for shooting steel targets:
    • Pistol caliber and .22LR cartridges – 10 YARDS
    • Standard rifle cartridges – 100 YARDS
    • Magnum (over 3000 FPS) velocity cartridges – 200 YARDS
